Acupressure

Acupressure is often combined with acupuncture. Practitioners use hands and

fingers to stimulate the acu-points along the meridians. Though the result is not as

obvious as acupuncture, local blood circulation can be enhanced.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been recognized by the World Hearth Organization (WHO) as well as British Columbia’s Medical Services Plan (MSP) as an effective medical treatment method. The therapy is provided through the use of needles to stimulate acu-points in the body which “wakeup” one’s immune system in order to cure or slow down illness and the development of disease. It is has been used for centuries and is regarded as the most effective natural therapy at present.

Therapeutic Applications for Acupuncture:

1. Headaches, migraines (irritability, foul breath, constipation, abdominal bloating and
cramping, fatigue, lethargy, tinnitus, sensitivity to cold, puffiness of eyelids, etc.).

Auricular Therapy

Auricular Therapy is often combined with acupuncture. Herbal seeds (wang bu liu xing) are placed on the ear to stimulate organs related to the pressure points on the earlobes and external ear. Following acupuncture treatment in the clinic, the therapist may often provide Auricular Therapy so that the patient can stimulate the pressure points at home by pressing the seeds in order to maintain continued therapy. The seeds can generally be left on the ear for a week.

Therapeutic Applications for Auricular Therapy:

3. Smoking, alcohol and drug withdrawal symptoms.

4. Chronic disease.

Cupping

Cupping is also often combined with acupuncture. It is a method of treatment involving suction of the skin to draw out blood stasis and sometimes pus.

It improves the circulation of the blood and softens muscle for more flexibility. It is an excellent choice of therapy to boost one’s energy level.

Therapeutic Applications for Cupping

1. Stiffness (back pain, frozen shoulder, etc.).

2. Arthritis and joint pain.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha (Sand Scraping) is another therapy often combined with acupuncture. A method of treating repletion heat sand (Sha) distention patterns whereby the skin on the back, limbs and other parts of the body is lubricated and then scraped with scrapers. It improves blood circulation, softens muscle to be more flexible.
